Viola Coach

 

Joyce Tseng is a violist based in Rochester, New York, who is passionate about performing. Ms. Tseng has won numerous awards in solo competitions. She was the winner of the Macao Young Musicians String Concerto Competition and the Viola Solo Competition in 2014. In the same year, she made her debut performance with the Macao Orchestra as a soloist. She was awarded 2nd prize in the Collegiate Division of the 2018 American Viola Society Solo Competition.

 

Ms Tseng is an eager learner and has spent her past summers at the AVS Festival, Karen Tuttle Coordination Conference, and the Aspen Music Festival. She was also one of the Ashkenasi/Kirshbaum Chamber Music Seminar participants at the Heifetz International Music Festival, where she performed two complete chamber music works.

To equip herself for a performing career, Ms Tseng has performed in master classes given by Michelle LaCourse, Jeffrey Irvine, Laura Bossert, Susan Dubois, Lynne Ramsey, Sheila Browne, Robert Vernon, and Victoria Chiang, and Atar Arad.

Ms Tseng is currently pursing a master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music, where she also did her B.M., majoring in viola performance with Professor George Taylor and Professor Phillip Ying. She is also a teaching assistant of Professor George Taylor. Ms Tseng is a firm believer in the communicative potential of music, and hopes to cultivate passion for classical music among young people.
